When you are working with design you shouldn´t need to think about whether the elements you see on the screen are "real elements" or "intervals" - and it´s not so easy for the user to control if the program creates one or the other when you work. But some commands don´t work on intervals and you need to redo things or if you are lucky find a workaround.

It should all just be geometry for the user.
